One question at a time. All you need are your papers and a few minutes.
Without these security codes it cannot be done online. Older papers don't have them; we clarify this in the first question.
Don't uncover anything yet. We only ask you to do so in the last step, once everything else is correct.
Both lead to the same result. It depends on what your time is worth to you.

How much does registration in Gelsenkirchen cost?
The fixed price is 74,95 €, all inclusive, including the registration office fee.
What do I need?
The vehicle title (Fahrzeugbrief) from 2018 with a silver code field and an eVB number (electronic insurance confirmation) from your car insurer.
Where do I find the code in the vehicle title (Fahrzeugbrief)?
On the back, under the silver foil. It has twelve characters and always starts with a capital B. The number printed on the foil is not the code.
When can I start driving?
With the provisional proof of registration that arrives by email, and with the number plates fitted.
Do I get my money back if it doesn't work?
In full if we cannot submit the application, for example because online registration is disrupted in the district or the details are not accepted as entered. Once the application has been submitted, we no longer refund anything, not even if a detail later turns out to be incorrect.
Registering a car in Gelsenkirchen: the essentials
Register a vehicle in Gelsenkirchen without any appointment: with i-Kfz this works digitally if the vehicle title (Fahrzeugbrief) was issued on or after 1 January 2018. It then has a silver field on the back with a twelve-character security code.
You also need an electronic insurance confirmation, the eVB number. You get it from your car insurer, usually right away by email or text message.
The fixed price of 74,95 € already includes the registration office fee. You have the number plates made at a plate maker of your choice.
A common mistake: the number printed on the silver foil is taken for the code. The actual code is underneath and always starts with B. Our form spots the mix-up immediately.
